According to someone who posted earlier that's another error from lack of .net framework. Are you trying the 1.02?

Okay, figured it out, seems I have to ctrl+click to bring up the menu, too bad it can't be anything intuitive like escape, right-click, or some hot-key

I don't think I have that problem... I mean, ctrl+something would be especially weird since ctrl is basically the "skip" key (or speed up during battles).

no, the error show up when I applied ver 1.00
and this time when I apply ver 1.02, it tells me that I need microsofot .net framework
I try to install it and heck! it's too long to wait, I installed it near 2 hours ago and it's unfinished yet.

Yeah, the ctrl+click is wierd, the only way I figured it out was because with my gamepad it requires me to hit 3 buttons, one of which is the skip key, so I figured I'd try key combos with ctrl which randomly led to ctrl+click... Enjoying the game now that I've figured that out, but it was a odd thing to have to figure out
