You can try it on Takios while his defense is up/not defending.
i remember that it would deal the same damage (24k-ish) :?

Better to test it on the Flame Emperor thing. If you take damage, then it does not ignore defense skills.

Hello,
Newly registered as I am, I'd like to express my appreciation for your work on Eien no Aselia;the only problem is that I'm now itching to play the sequel now (damn you kanji :x ). I do have a few question, though:

Is there an easy way to lower mind quickly? Generally I've tried to keep it high, but mission 11 on hard mode forced me to rely on Orupha and Nanaru—specifically, the enemy suddenly started fielding groups with powerful spellcasters, and I had no blue spirit capable of banishing their spells; liberal use of Apocalypse got me through the mission so I could train—and keeping Orupha's mind below 70 has proven difficult ever since. She simply regains far more mind than I can get rid of. Consecutive SS ranks don't help, as I find myself with even more mind.

Do you have to capture towns during the missions in order to get the bonus mana? I've been operating under the assumption that you do, but on some missions it seems next to impossible to achieve a SS rank and capture everything—mission 16 comes to mind—since it simply takes too long; if you don't have to, it'd make sense to just force your way through the centre and be done with it, but if you need to capture everything you'd have to split your forces; factoring in time to re-supply—assuming you aren't incredibly overpowered—it seems like a tall order to do both. I suppose I'd just forego SS in that case, since the added bonus isn't anywhere near the mana you can obtain from all the towns.

What is the purpose of the useless skills—the ones characters receive at relatively high levels but with pathetic values? Are they good for anything?

there is no easy way to reduce mind for heroines, make sure the charakter is not in groups conquering towns/killing dragons so that you will not increase it during the mission. beyond that you need to try to have that charakter kill as many enemys as possible, though this will give them the ace bonus. you should also concentrate on using skills that decrease mind.

you need to capture the towns to get the mana stored within them.
when you have to capture malorigan, just ignore the town that belongs to son rim at the beginning if you wont get the ss bonus otherwise(i would have captured it in turn 31 the last time ~_~), even on super hard it only gives 64k mana, ss bonus is ~2mio(while the numbers change depending on difficulty the relation should stay about the same). make sure to build a teleporter in the town were the dragon rumour will appear. after you have fended of their onslaught at the beginning (good time to train) split up your forces.
keep a powerful squad in your town, i usually go with aselia, esperia, orpha for that and let them continue defending, once the enemy has lost enough troops send them through the middel route and have them wait in front of malorigan until you wish to end the mission.
send your second and third squad south, nelie, nimthor, nanaru and selia, yuuto, uruka/himika are good for that. when you come to the crossroads split those forces, nanarus group breaks through those two squads in the west and pushes on. selias group attacks the oasis, once it is taken, build a teleporter and have the squad wait, once the teleporter is ready they can go hear the rumour and kill the dragon within the timelimit.
the fourth squad will usually consist of rabble and try to take the son rim town. make sure to have a black spirit with you to drain the banish skill of the last squadron before the town.

2 million mana bonus for ss rank!? I don't believe it. I'm only playing hard for the first time, but I find ss rank mana bonuses to be pretty trivial ATM. Generally, finishing a mission grants about 300,000 mana, and ss rank is worth only 20-30k
capturing towns tend to be worn more from my experience. You DO know that the mana reward isn't based on rank, the "bonus" on the next screen is what gives it.

Maybe it is diff on superhard though.

capture malorigan ss bonus is 1,2mio mana and 600k ether on superhard.
the capital of sargios gives 1,6mio mana, so it is probably ~2,5 times as much as on hard

Orpha's Apocalypse II is fairly strong even at half-power, and in the end I just use it like that.

Most useless skills are useless, particularly Nanaru's spells. Orpha Screw is an Action- skill, and Halion's Elemental Blast is a stat-reducing skill.

The rewards do scale according to rank. Otherwise, you'd take forever to get your characters to lv99, which takes over 5 million at the least (from lv1 to lv99). Esperia requires the least (I think). The Etrangers and Tokimi takes up the most, at over 10 million each. The scaling of rewards is not very obvious at the beginning of hard mode. It will pick up soon though. Mana crystals never yield more than 10k mana, keep them for the mind bonus. I don't know if dragons yield more in higher difficulties. If they did, I never noticed.

Yeah, I also use Stardust at half-power that way. I think my favourite, by far, is ignition. It's good for finishing off weak enemies without wasting attack skills.

I agree with Ignition being the favourite, and Nanaru's is significantly stronger than Orpha's because of the higher max attack.

Dragons do not yield more at higher difficulties, use them for mind restore on everyone.

I'm trying so hard to make orpha's mind go low but hell, it just keeps popping up. One time I was actually at 65, and then I screwed up and had her defend against an enemy with a wet noodle attack... Then I suddenly remembered that +10 mind thing for defense.... %€#¥$@! Hopefully her eternal skills have some big minuses on them.

Do esperia's low mind classes have better resist by chance? As for ignition, I like it too, despite the description, it's the most powerful nuke for a long ass time, early cast doesn't hurt either.

I doubt it, but do you get to Use tokimi outside of chapter 5 if you do her route or something? She's too fun to goto waste =(
