...to take the character image set and CG from PS3 blu-ray?
Seeing this makes me drool

...after 2nd thought... the event, story, etc will be different.. so maybe it's not a good idea -_-

Personally the PS3 designs make me want to puke rather than drool, don't even get me started on how hideous most of them are;;;; but I don't think it's impossible if you just want to change the character avatar sets or something. Don't ask us to do it, though.

Holy... shiitake mushrooms! That isn't just retouching the images that is completely different!

Hmm.... I like some of the redesigns better, and others I don't care for as much. One thing I can say is that the artwork of the PS3 version is indeed 'better' from a raw standpoint.

My question is this... did they take out the bit of Rathty being confused as being a boy? Because her new look is easy for me to tell as being a girl. And her outfit... I assume that is the rule of cool kicking in... yes?

As for liking, I really do like the retooled Epona image. And the retooled battle system looks better to me than the current one.

Anyways I am curious, why such major changes in the design? I mean Characters like Arthur, Rianna, Rathty, Gaius, And Ermin I wouldn't even recognize.

As I see it, there's a pretty simple explanation though it's probably a bit reverse of what you'd expect. In the PS3 version they're modelling all the characters, so they had to simplify the character designs if they wanted to make the models look the same as their images - hence all the characters look plastic and carved from the same wood, with only different props and colouring. Same with retouched battle system, they downgraded from the unusual real time combat back into uta-turns just so that they can display more impressive combat animation sequences. Talk about putting the cart before the horses.

Well I prefer the Utaw turn system to the battle system in this one. The Real time just wasn't as well implemented as I am accustomed to(I do play quite a bit of NWN2 and the ilk). However, from what I have seen of the combat in the PS3... they really did seem to put in a lot of unnecessary eye-candy. Utaw was fine(well a bit simple in design but that is alright), but the trailers look a bit hefty candy wise. Of course trailers usually do have lots of eye-candy ;)

However, I really don't think the designs are truly simplified. In most cases there is more detail(though they do appear to be using the same base model or two with only props and clothing as you mentioned... but that is merely standard practice. Many games utilize similar principles). I mean Rathty for example goes from a very basic design to a hat with ears and all sorts of other things following the rule of cool.

And what about characters out of battle, did they need to be given 3d models as well? Just curious because Ermin who is easily the least recognizable for me... well I haven't seen a trailer ever involving a character model with her anyways. Not that I am overly fond with Ermin's original design(just not my fancy), but talk about extreme make overs.

I wonder how well the PS3 version does with the facial expressions? That is a very important bit.

That's the other thing, the original cloth designs are all pretty down to earth and seem realistic for the period and area, the PS3 designs are just wild fantasy, not a single one looks fitting of the times and purpose. Do not like.

True, they went too complicated in most cases. However, there are several I don't mind. And in at least one case I really like the new design.

However, I wonder how much the story changes. Octavia doesn't look like someone who lost her 'prestige' as long back as I recall her having lost it(though she does have airs about her, so they just built her clothes to match I guess) and Rathty as previously mentioned no longer looks like a boy.

But yeah, it isn't really the clothing that gets me. I am not overly surprised there(though Rathty got it bad), fantasy characters seem to be expected to have fanciful outfits these days(rule of cool I suppose). But what is with the hair color and eye color changes? Nearly all the characters suffer from that. In addition Ermin lost her glasses, Ogram lost his emblem thing, and Rathty lost her big ugly nose(or at least it isn't as noticeable). It really seems they were trying to make Rathty more girly.

As noted, some of the clothing is particularly unfortunate--those pouches around Rathty look rather more like a barrel than something a person might actually wear, and Arthur's bare midriff really doesn't work for me--but I actually like a few of them. Octavia's top is totally appropriate for her attitude and former position, and I've always been a sucker for the jaunty belt-at-a-diagonal look, but then the whole look is spoiled by that idiotic miniskirt which makes me think she's just an overdressed schoolgirl, and the elbow pads don't really help (maybe cause I just reread it recently, but I think of Sakura from CCS, so maybe she'll have rollerblades too -_-;). Arawn's design didn't change a heckuva lot, but that scarf is a bit silly, and he looks much better without it imo. Llyr's new clothing is a bit overdone, but it is very attractive, and she *is* fairly exotic, and I'm quite willing to believe that she would have fancier clothing than the random "savages" of the Gael tribe.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on Gaius's redesign, though. I think his face matches his personality quite well--jovial at a glance but hiding cunning and focus when necessary--but his PS3 redesign just looks evil. If I saw his PC face in a bar, I'd sit down and have a drink with him. If I saw his PS3 face, I'd keep one hand on my wallet and sit as far away as possible.

Amen. We've discussed this on IRC a lot as well, and Gaius gets one of the worst injustices done in the PS3 remake, his new design is just... messed up.

Yes poor Gaius. I think that is all that is needed to be said there.

The Elbow armor is over-pronounced... particularly since she is wearing so little other armor. And yes the mini-skirt is bad, but seems to be par for play for video game female warriors these days. Sadly I don't see too many characters like Agrias Oaks from FFT(I really do like her design).
Llyr's new clothing is a bit overdone, but it is very attractive, and she *is* fairly exotic, and I'm quite willing to believe that she would have fancier clothing than the random "savages" of the Gael tribe.
Ditch the hat for something a bit more normal and I would give her a hands up. Perhaps give her back her seal's head? That might look a bit... odd to say the least. But I like the Seal's head!
