Love at first sight can be quite annoying, but I think sitting behind the eyes of a narrator-protagonist is most horrible when he or she is a moron. Particularly if you also get some insight into the thought process.

Oh absolutely. UBW was awesome. HF was possibly more troubling than Fate, because I can't say I see Shirou maturing. Also it was disturbing.

This is the first VN I've played, so generic VN flaws are new to me with this game. How though, does he treat esperia as inequal? Aeselia I can see since he tries TWICE to dump her because he thinks she can't decide about being an eternal for herself. In esperia's case when he sneaks off, he doesn't even know it's possible for esperia to do so yet, and even if he did he had no idea how she felt about it yet. Soo....

I see the relationship with esperia to be one of mutual appreciation of each others strengths and weaknesses. But maybe I just didn't notice something. The whole esperia speaks to Gaea scene is terrible though, WTF is esperia such a blubbering idiot at that moment. Bah.

Esperia is Yuuto's mother, and more or less stays this way, even into the special ending. The attempting to dump Aselia is very sad, indeed.

By HF I meant Heaven's Feel. As I said, I don't see him maturing in that route, whereas he does very much so in UBW. The whole route feels like a bad ending somewhat akin to "rape Arcueid".

In UBW, shirou is still a bit naive ... in my opinion, btw

I agree with iamin7ove, Shiro is more mature in HF. The whole thing of rejecting his dream in order to save Sakura is the thing that make him the more mature shirou of any route, and, if this isn't valid to you, Nasu himself said that .
