Gameplay FAQ/Tips

Post by cheese » Mon Dec 15, 2008 6:54 am

Here's a collection of helpful information about gameplay. Feel free to contribute.

How to I access Thraty's secret shop?
After you have met Thraty, there is a 1 in 60 chance that you will encounter Thraty every time you visit the weapon shop. If you keep exiting and reentering, you'll get it eventually. Thraty sells items one rank higher than would be normally sold at your current point in the game. Holding the ctrl key will make entering and exiting the shop faster.

How do I access the hidden bonus dungeon?
1. Beat the game and save your cleared game data.
2. Load your cleared data.
3. Visit the Ruins of the Dragon Race and view the scene.
4. The Leaf Tower will be available on your world map, in the north of Albion. It's invisible until you mouse-over it.

What are the unlockable mercenary classes?
Druid - Requires level 20 magician and level 15 priestess.
Hunter - Requires level 10 archer.
Minstrel - Requires level 20 hunter.
Paladin - Requires level 10 magician and level 10 fencer.
Seer - Requires level 15 magician and level 20 priestess.
Musician - Requires level 20 paladin and level 20 archer.

What does the Red Thread item in Epona's shop do?
Buying it allows you to see Epona's second H-scene.

What are the exact level-up stat bonuses from torcs?
The cheap torcs give you a 1-3 point bonus.
The expensive torcs give you a 3-5 point bonus.
The knitted muffler gives you a 1-2 point bonus to every stat.

How do I get the ultimate equipment?
The best equipment can only be acquired as drops in free maps. The drops become better as you level up.

What are the relative strengths/weaknesses of the elements?
Fire:
120% vs. wind
80% vs. earth

Wind:
120% vs. earth
80% vs. water

Earth:
120% vs. water
80% vs. fire

Water:
120% vs. fire
80% vs. wind

Dark:
120% vs. star
80% vs. holy

Star:
120% vs. dark
120% vs. holy

Holy:
130% vs. holy
120% vs. dark
70% vs. star

Do weapons and armor have elemental properties?
Yes. Elemental weapons override a character's element when attacking. Elemental armors override a character's element when defending. Most weapons and armors have no elements, but here are the ones that do:

Edrum: Dark
Dawnwin: Holy
Any electrum weapon: Holy
Electrum Armor: Star
Star Robe: Star
Robe of Calm: Wind

Some of the legendary equipment dropped in free maps also have elemental attributes.

About difficulties:

If you're wondering what to pick, you really, really should play on "Impossible" difficulty :D. It's about "normal" (hard for bonus dungeon), main issue that comes on this difficulty is that you have very limited time before all mobs left on the map activate, on some easier difficulties you have unlimited time to pick out the mobs one by one... you won't get full value out of the game if you don't play on Impossible since the easier difficulties are unnecessarily easy.

Seriously? So this isn't like Utawarerumono where the hardest mode is... well... hard to put it blunty... very hard?

Well now that I got the hang of the combat system I was going to give it a go anyways, but really it sounds like I might just be disappointed.

As for the easy modes, I think they are there for what I was using them for. The battle system isn't all that enjoyable to me so for the story play through I put it on easy and just let the CPU control my troops. It works and I can sit and watch Mythbusters or something while waiting for the story to resume. Basically it is there for people who are there for the story part of the game only. Though on Easy your units can still get owned so badly by mages . There really should have been a 'target spellcaster' option for archers.

No it's not like Uta. And this is exactly what I meant, if you can pass the whole game on autocombat the battles are just redundant and you won't enjoy them much.

What difficulty? I just cleared that last floor and it really was pretty damn tough on Impossible, I was using only the main cast though. Basically you need high magic defense on all characters (and lvl 99 highly recommended). Spread out and take out the misc enemies ASAP - once you're down to the 3 'bosses' the rest is doable as long as you have Riannon and a fighter with good defenses alive (Arawn, probably). If you have money, I recommend giving those Gladiator helmets that cost 1M to the characters which have good magic def (definitely recommended for Riannon).
You should use Magic avoidance on Arthur to prolong his life though he's pretty impossible to really keep alive - he can easily slash apart several misc troops at least.

A valuable news item: the Knitted Muffler is a light Omnitorc - it increases all your stat gains similar to the normal (cheap) torcs - in other words, it's pretty bloody good.

What if I train Morgan to level 10 and 20, will Hunter and Minstrel still be unlocked?

Is it a shop item, or random map reward?

You can buy it in shops... probably after clearing the bonus dungeon :? . But it's also a drop, I think you always get one in the final arena battle as well.
